Getting Around Toodyay
Toodyay is a small town, and many of the places visitors want to see are close together. Whether you arrive by train or by car, you can cover a lot of the town on foot, with a taxi or your own car for the rest.
Ways to Get Around
Whether you’re on foot, riding with the shuttle or driving yourself, getting around Toodyay is simple. Here’s what to expect.
Walking in Toodyay
The train station is in town, so you can step off the train and walk to the cafes, shops and historic buildings. The town is also a good place for a stroll along the river. If you’re after a self-guided walk, try our Toodyay Historic Walking Tour.
Taxis and Transfers
Toodyay Shuttle offers ride share transport to and from Toodyay for FIFO flights, Perth entertainment events and trips around the Wheatbelt. Call 0437 433 545 to book. Bookings for flights need to be made before 4pm the day before you fly, so plan ahead.
If you need a taxi, Northam taxis also service the area. Contact them before you travel to check availability and fares, as they may need to travel from Northam to pick you up. There’s no regular scheduled shuttle between Perth and Toodyay, so the train, the Toodyay Shuttle or a taxi are your main options without a car.
Event Shuttles
During big events, extra transport is sometimes put on. For the Toodyay Agricultural Show, for example, a free shuttle bus ran between the train station and the showgrounds. Check our Toodyay Events page and Transwa’s news for details before you travel.
Parking
Parking is easy in Toodyay. There’s plenty of space along the main street, so you can park close to the cafes, shops and historic buildings and explore on foot. You’ll also find parking at all the main tourist attractions, so you don’t need to plan far ahead or walk a long way from your car.
If you’re towing a caravan or driving a larger vehicle, there are parking bays in the carpark behind the IGA and in front of the Toodyay Visitor Centre. Weekends, school holidays and event days are busier, especially during the spring wildflower season, so allow a little extra time to find a spot.
However you travel
Toodyay is easy to enjoy however you get here. Arrive by train, ride with the Toodyay Shuttle or drive yourself, and you’ll find the town compact and friendly to explore. Take your time, stop for a coffee and see what the Avon Valley has to offer.
